MAC: New Matchmaster Concealer

20140830_190732Until recently, I had a tendency to steer clear of stick concealers. I love a good concealer – and am always on the lookout for the next amazing product – but I just found liquid concealers easier to apply over foundation. The consistency was more moveable and always worked well once it was applied before my foundation was completely set.

However (there’s always a ‘however’) I may have found a stick concealer that ‘s not only easy to apply with foundation, but gives great coverage and wears well throughout the day too.

MAC’s new Matchmaster Concealers features the same shade-intelligence technology that lies behind their Matchmaster Foundation line. If you haven’t tried this particular line, like me, it basically uses innovative pigment technology in the make-up which is designed to create a personalised and subtle satin finish to your skin. The concealer (and the foundation) contains Vitamin E which conditions the skin as the concealer works to reduce the appearance of under-eye circles, dark spots, discolourations, fine lines and wrinkles. Because of this, it makes it an ideal product for any age-group to wear.

Plus, it comes packaged in a convenient, portable stick, meaning it’s easy to throw in your handbag and top up your make up throughout the day.

The brand new concealer is available in 12 different shades and will be available from September. Priced at €22.20140830_190654

Bielenda: The newest skincare brand to launch in Ireland

I’m always on the lookout for good skincare products, whether they’re new on the beauty scene or already considered holy grail products by someone else. So when I received some samples of a new skincare line due to be launched in Ireland soon, I was excited to try something new and intrigued too as I had not come across the brand before.

Bielenda is a new skincare brand set to launch in Ireland this month. With both a professional product line, as well as a retail line, Bielenda is already considered successful in other EU countries as well as a few far flung places such as the Far East and the States.

Eco and Animal Friendly

What I particularly like about the brand, and what I know a lot of people find so important these days, is that the products are NOT tested on animals, they’re eco-friendly and they’re made using natural ingredients.

Sounds good so far, right?

The whole idea of Bielenda is that the safe and skin-friendly beauty care can be “all encompassing”. By this they mean all of the above:

– Contains eco-friendly active ingredients

– Products are not tested on animals, but by renowned experts in dermatology

– They aim to minimise their impact on the environment. This means they distribute their products in eco-friendly recycable packaging and they remain environmentally aware at each and every stage of manufacture and distribution.

A Polish brand, Bielenda is already available in the UK, other EU countries including France, Canada, USA and United Arab Emirates, and now, Ireland.

Suitable for all skin types

This is the next reason I was excited about the brand’s arrival en Irlande.

While Bielenda Professional will be only available in beauty salons, spas and beauty schools, the retail brand is ours for the taking. And they’ve a skincare line to suit each and every skin type…

Dry & Sensitive – Cotton

Dry & Very Dry – Black Olive

Dry & Dehydrated – Avacado

Sensitive & Allergic – Aloe

Thin, delicate and skin with dilated capillaries – Chestnut

Very mature & Dry – Argan Oil

Mixed & Oily – Cucumber and lime

Tired, dull & stressed – Carotene

Normal & Mixed – Pomegranate

Bielenda also offer a tanning range, a men’s range ‘Only For Men’, and pregnancy-safe skincare too. Having already won an Instyle beauty award and an award with the French Cosmopolitan magazine, Bielenda is certainly one to check out.

I’ve even tried a few myself over the last few weeks, so keep an eye out for my reviews on the blog this week, as well as a Q&A session with a Bielenda skincare specialist. In the meantime, check out the brand’s Irish distributor: Primavera Beauty.

Gazelli: All the way from Azerbaijan

If you’ve read some of my previous posts, you’ll have noticed that I have mentioned a few of the fashion and accessory designers I met on a recent style weekend in Glasgow. What I haven’t mentioned until now is anything about the fun and interesting people I managed to spend the entire weekend with.

One of these is my new pal Marni Banks, a freelance fashion blogger and journalist living and working in London. As well as writing for a number of magazines, Marni also works with a beauty product generally new to the British market and barely known here in Ireland.

Over the course of the weekend, and multiple glasses of Moet, Marni told me all about Gazelli – a brand new luxury skincare brand – and before we parted ways, left me with a discovery set to try out. After testing it for the past few weeks, I knew it was something I wanted to share on my blog.

It’s the first time I’ve tried a product that has originated (to my knowledge) in Azerbaijan, so I was really intrigued by it and quite excited about the prospect of trying it out.

The sample set consisted of White Oil Ultimate Firming Serum and a White Oil Triple Youth Intensive Age Repair Cream.

The Science Bit:

Gazelli’s not-so-secret ingredient, White Oil, comes from one of Azerbaijan’s most precious natural resources and Gazelli says it is the only company in the world to have adapted the extremely rare skin-healing ingredient from medicinal to cosmetic use.

The product possesses qualities that have been recognised for centuries in medicine and contains a high concentration of physiologically active components, which work to increase metabolic processes at cellular level. This means it helps to improve the skin’s ability to regenerate itself and absorb nutrients and oxygen.

My verdict:

The sample sizes were the perfect introduction to the brand and for three weeks I used a drop of serum in the morning and at night, followed by the cream. The serum and cream are designed to nourish, tone and firm the skin.

I was really impressed by the scent of both products, and felt my skin looked fresher and felt smoother and firmer after trying them out. It’s definitely a product I’m tempted in investing in, in order to see the more lasting effects!

The Background Story:

The skincare product was brought to the UK by mom and daughter duo Dr Zarifa Hamzayeva and her daughter, Jamila Askarova, in 2011, after 14 years of experience and success in Azerbaijan. The new adventure worked thanks to a combination of Dr Hamzayeva’s medical expertise and Jamila’s creative vision and just two years ago, Gazelli’s Triple Youth range was launched in Harrods in London.

What makes it even more interesting is that each step of the production process – from raw material to final packaging – is carried out in-house using state of the art technology in Gazelli headquarters in Azerbaijan. The fruits are all hand harvested and the extracts and essential oils are all created in-house.

Price: 2 X 5ml introductory set £16. For more information or to purchase a discovery set, visit www.gazelli.co.uk.

The Power Brows

When I heard that Mollie from the Saturdays had discovered a new brow product and was telling the world about its amazing-ness, I figured I had to check it out for myself.

I’ve never had very strong eyebrows and for a while during my tweens, I didn’t pay them any notice. It was quite tragic really!

In the past few years however, I’ve started to sit up and take notice. I reckon I have Cara Delevingne and her caterpillars to thank for that. I’ve realised just how important brows can be and how they really can make or break a make-up look.  I’ve tried HD Brows in the past and regularly get my brows shaped and tinted. But even with the professionals help, it was near impossible to recreate the look at home.

So that’s when Mollie came to the rescue with her raves about Brow Drama by Maybelline. Suddenly my brows have gone from being barely noticeable to being possibly the most important part of my make-up regime!

Brow Drama by Maybelline

While I always start off by defining the shape of my eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil, it’s adding the Brow Drama afterwards that really sets the look. Basically a sculpting mascara for the brows, it coats, brushes, shapes and holds your brows. The days of spraying hairspray on a brow spoolie and setting your eyebrows are over (very useful tip by the way!).

And while it already has a prime place in my make-up bag, it was one product that didn’t break the bank and seems like it will last quite a while too. Plus it comes in three shades; blonde, medium brown and dark brown. It’s quite the investment, really.

Found in Boots (or anywhere with Maybelline products) for a very wallet-friendly price of €7.49. I love a good beauty bargain!
