NYX Make-up Setting Spray

I’m a bit of a newby to make-up setting sprays, but since discovering them earlier this year, I’m always interested in finding new ones to try. I have a favourite so far, which I’ll do a post on soon, but in the meantime, I wanted to mention another one I’ve come across and am interested in checking out!

I’ve met some beauty bloggers who use them on a daily basis, but I find they come in very useful when you’re heading out for an evening or are heading to a wedding. They help keep your make-up fresh throughout the day, and if they have enough staying-power, will save you having to top up when you’re too busy having a good time to think about powdering your nose!

The NYX make-up setting spray is a new one, but what’s interesting is that it comes in both a matte shine-free finish (for those oily skin types!) or a dewy fresh glow. NYX promises that their sprays are lightweight and comfortable but work hard at the same time to ensure your make up stays put.

So how do you use them? You shake, spray and set. That’s pretty much it! Both setting sprays by NYX are available in pharmacies nationwide and are priced at €9.99 – a good price if you’re going to be using the spray at weekends or on those important days when you need to look freshly made up!

While I can’t say how well the NYX one works, I can let you know that setting sprays are well worth having in your beauty bags. Let me know if you try it out anytime soon, and what you think!

Rocky Horror Lipstick Show

photo 1

I can’t quite believe I’m mentioning ‘Halloween’ but I am. Purely because there is lipstick being launched by MAC in time for Halloween and I want it. You would think there would be enough shades of red lipsticks in the world, but it seems there’s always room for one more. Its title might seem scary, and a little on the ‘warpaint/Halloween face painting’ side of things, but in actual fact, the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ collection being released by MAC next month looks fab.

The new collection has been inspired by the old Halloween classic and is all about individuality and fantasy. While I have my eye on this particular lipstick, the whole collection features a number of lipstick shades, lip pencils, lashes and an eye shadow palette, blush and powders, liquid liners and glitters and pigments.

This particular lipstick is a dark blue-red called ‘Sin Deep’. And I love the packaging! I’m not completely sure of the pricing but will update the post as soon as I find out!

Brooke Shields for MAC

photo 1

If you haven’t already heard about MAC’s latest collaboration, you might be surprised to learn that Brooke Shields is the latest celeb to sign up to the make-up brand. This is an interesting one – mainly due to the fact that MAC normally collaborate with the more edgier types such as Rihanna/Hello Kitty. But I like it! Brooke seems a bit more realistic to me and we can pretty much tell, before ever seeing her product line, that her collaboration will be wearable and everyday make-up.

The line launches this October and the idea behind it is that is flattering for all skin tones but all skin age groups too. Brooke herself is 49 years old and its clear she was involved a huge amount in the production of the line. It has classic beauty written all over it! While most people flock to MAC for the more edgier, trendier beauty bag pieces, I’m delighted this line is filled with natural but classy beauty bits. The line includes a 15-pan eye shadow palette (full of really wearable shades – I’m wanting this!), blush duos, a five-piece eye shadow palette, lip colours, lip glasses, bronzers and nail lacquers, among a few other things. And the collection stands out too – with its own sophisticated orange and grey packaging.

I got a quick glimpse recently of some of the products set to hit counters next month – and here are some pics!

Youngblood Cosmetics Eyeshadow Quad

I have found some brand new eye shadows that I really love! For any of you who have yet to hear of Youngblood Cosmetics, it is a brand that I have wanted to try for a long time and finally have. I never grow tired of hearing about celebrities’ favourite products and Youngblood is one that is already loved by the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba and Gwyneth Paltrow. Celebs have so many beauty products, brands and talented artists to hand, that it really is worth taking notes when they start praising one in particular.

photo 1

Youngblood Cosmetics launched in Ireland in late 2013 but while it’s relatively new around these parts, it has been around much longer Stateside. It’s a mineral brand and all their products are made of natural ground minerals from the earth, without any chemicals, dyes or preservatives. It’s also free of talc, oil and fragrance and while I’ve yet to try Youngblood’s foundations (just give me time!) they’re good for the skin too – all types in fact; including skin recovering from chemical peels or skin experiencing rosacea, acne or discolouration.

The eyes hadow quads are something I’ve heard a lot about from other beauty bloggers so I was excited about trying them out. This one, pictured below, is one of the more popular quads, and is called ‘Moulin Rouge’. The quad includes four colours, including ‘Can-Can’, ‘Revue’, ‘Cabarets’ and ‘Red Light’. I really love a natural smokey eye and that’s definitely the look you’ll get when using a combination of these four colours.

‘Revue’ is great as a colour base, when applied across the whole eye, but it also works well as a highlighter too. It looks really great when used under the brow and helps achieve the more ‘arched’ look too. ‘Can-Can’ is a really nice subtle light brown colour, which looks great for a natural look if used just with ‘Revue’. But I’m a big fan of using certain orange shades which work really on a blue eye, so I loved ‘Red Light’, a burnt orange shade that comes in the palette. To finish off the real ‘smokey’ look, ‘Cabarets’ is a dark brown shade, perfect for the crease line and lower lash line to darken the smokey look.

Often when I buy an eye shadow quad, I end up using just one or two of the shades, as it’s rare I like all four colours. But I have to say I loved Moulin Rouge and continue to wear all four shades together when I’m creating a smokey eye look with this palette. While I love the colours, and the fact that the product is not only good for your skin, but cruelty free too – so it’s not tested on animals – what I really liked was how easily they were applied.

I usually have to layer up a look with eye shadows, but these are really pigmented and I literally needed to gently tap my brush on the eye shadows to gain colour. They went on really easily and blended like a dream. Which is great as it means you use less colour, and the palette lasts longer. It comes in great packaging, simple and understated but pretty too, and it’s small enough that you can carry it in your handbag or easily take it with you for a weekend away!

The quads are priced at €39 each, which for such well-pigmented eye shadows that will last a long time, is a decent price. There are plenty of other colours available (see here) and I have my eye on a few, including the ‘Gemstone Quad’. I also like the look of the brand’s individual shadows too, along with the Youngblood mini brush set and the liquid liner pens. So much to discover!

MAC: New Matchmaster Concealer

20140830_190732Until recently, I had a tendency to steer clear of stick concealers. I love a good concealer – and am always on the lookout for the next amazing product – but I just found liquid concealers easier to apply over foundation. The consistency was more moveable and always worked well once it was applied before my foundation was completely set.

However (there’s always a ‘however’) I may have found a stick concealer that ‘s not only easy to apply with foundation, but gives great coverage and wears well throughout the day too.

MAC’s new Matchmaster Concealers features the same shade-intelligence technology that lies behind their Matchmaster Foundation line. If you haven’t tried this particular line, like me, it basically uses innovative pigment technology in the make-up which is designed to create a personalised and subtle satin finish to your skin. The concealer (and the foundation) contains Vitamin E which conditions the skin as the concealer works to reduce the appearance of under-eye circles, dark spots, discolourations, fine lines and wrinkles. Because of this, it makes it an ideal product for any age-group to wear.

Plus, it comes packaged in a convenient, portable stick, meaning it’s easy to throw in your handbag and top up your make up throughout the day.

The brand new concealer is available in 12 different shades and will be available from September. Priced at €22.20140830_190654

Rihanna’s latest lip colour revealed!

So can we see ourselves sporting the newest lipstick colour from MAC? Rihanna is back with her Viva Glam collection and as usual, she looks amazing. But the lip colour is as daring as some of Rihanna’s past stage outfits, and I have to say, I quite like it! The newest shade to the MAC collection is a frosted metallic mauve lipstick and lipglass and will be available from September from Brown Thomas and BT2. The lipstick is priced at €19.50 and the lipglass at €18.50 and it’s all for a good cause – the full RRP (minus VAT) goes towards helping men, women and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. I might give the green hair a miss though!

What do we think?

Limited Edition: Wet n Wild

Since it was first launched in Ireland in January, Wet N Wild has gone down a treat in the beauty world. When I went along to the launch at the beginning of the year, I was really impressed by the amount of beauty bloggers there who were praising the brand, and who all had their favourite products – especially as I had never tried the brand before and wasn’t quite sure what to expect for such an affordable price! Now I’m a fan myself and I particularly like the lipsticks, which are really long lasting and well worth the surprisingly affordable price tag.

From now until the end of September, the brand is offering a limited edition nail colour and eye shadow trio inspired by the Pop Art Craze (think Andy Warhol and the 50’s art trend). Different from the usual smokey eye combo colours, the limited edition set is edgy, trendy and artsy and the ideal colours for adding some fun into your make-up bag!

It’s difficult to invest in new beauty buys all the time, and not always the best budget decision to make when you’re unsure if the ‘fun’ colours are going to look good or suit you. But with prices between €3.99 and €4.49, it won’t burn a whole in our wallets so I’m looking forward to trying them out!

Wet N Wild is available in Dunnes Stores, selected Penneys and retailers nationwide. The limited edition pop art craze is available until the end of September 2014.

Bridal Beauty

MUFE Studio

MUFE Studio

Following my pro-artistry make up course in March, which I did with Make Up For Ever, I’ve been busy practicing my make up artistry on anyone who will sit still long enough to be prodded with a foundation brush! Recently however, I popped along to another course carried out by MUFE on bridal beauty. The girls at MUFE are great, they’re really thorough, answer endless amounts of questions with a great amount of patience and really provide you with some great tools. In fact, I’ve already had two bookings for weddings in the next year! This look was done on the day by Nicola, the make-up trainer on the day, who did a three-tone smokey eye with liner and lashes. I’ve been busy recreating the look and will post some more pics soon!

Space NK Lust List

There was some serious excitement in the beautysphere recently with the grand opening of Ireland’s first standalone Space NK store. If you’re a beauty nerd or follow any beauty blogs at all, you’ll already be aware of the importance of this big news, but for those of you who are not, I’ll briefly explain:

Space NK isn’t just any old make up store; it’s an emporium and home to some of the most luxurious beauty brands in the world. It’s British, has stores in London and New York, and was founded by Nicky Kinnaird (hence the NK) just over 20 years ago.

The store (apothecary – ‘scuse me!) features make-up, skincare and hair care brands, some of which we’ve never really had the pleasure of sampling on the back of our hands before. Some of the tempting brands to lust over include Sunday Riley (a major beauty go-to on runways around the world), Eve Lom, By Terry, Lipstick Queen, Hourglass, Sarah Chapman and Oribe.

It took an overwhelming amount of willpower not to blow all my life savings on a spree on my first visit and indulged instead on simply exploring all the brands and making a lust list instead…

Ambient Lightning Blush by Hourglass
I’m familiar with the brand only because of what I’ve read on other blogs and can’t wait to try Hourglass. I particularly love the look of this lightweight blusher which comes in six shades. This one here is ‘Diffused Heat’.

Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser by Aurelia
I didn’t know this brand at all before Space NK arrived but I did receive a sample of this moisturiser and absolutely love it. Hence its place on my lust list! The luxurious cream is whipped, with a mousse-type texture to it, and it gives skin a gorgeous glow while hydrating dull skin.

Cheek to Cheek by By Terry
So this one is for the days when I’m not in the mood for a powder blush. I’m a big fan of cream blush as it is, but I’m dying to try Cheek by Cheek. It’s a brand new syrup blusher that’s made from 100% water. It gives baby soft pink cheeks and a subtle satin finish. Want!

Anti-feathering lip pencil by Laura Mercier
I’ve been meaning to get a nude-coloured lip pencil for a while and love the look of this lip pencil in ‘Naked’ by Laura Mercier. Designed to outline and enhance the natural shape of your lip, the nude-coloured pencil is ideal for wearing everyday, and can be used simply with a lipgloss.

Skinny Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko
Eyeliner is one of those cult beauty products I know I will never live without and I’ve heard great things about this particular one by Eyeko. It is designed with an easy-to-control pen and a preservative-free formula and it promises a long lasting finish. I can’t wait to add this one to my make-up kit!

What I did buy:

It’s not the type of place where you can easily leave empty handed, there’s just too much that I want. So I did treat myself to one particular product I’ve been eyeing up; eye do by eyeko. Eyeko is a brand that is fronted by Alexa Chung, so you know it’s cool. This isn’t just a mascara, but a treatment for your lashes too. It’s water resistant (but easily removed with eye make-up remover) and contains lash-enhancing botanicals too.
It features an over-sized mascara brush which creates clump-free volume and the carbon black colour adds depth and long-lasting colour.
It also has a unique tube-style packaging, which means less wastage.
It’s my new favourite mascara and for €25, a purchase that won’t break the bank!

Visit http://uk.spacenk.com/ for more information on the brands available. Space NK is located opposite BT2 on Dublin’s Grafton Street. You’ll come out with an empty wallet but I promise it will be worth it. And you’ll look amazing too.

Total Make Up Selfies

It seems ironic that the moment I pick up a make up brush to kick start my training as a professional make up artist, every girl in the country jumps on the #NoMakeUpSelfie bandwagon. My entire Facebook feed is thronged with fresh and smiley faces but deep down I know it’s only a matter of time before we all go crawling back to our daily masks.

I wasn’t planning on blogging too much about the make up course I’m currently training on, but since I’m really loving every moment of it, I felt a sneaky update was needed.

I’ve a new found love for painting faces, especially with all the lust-worthy Make Up For Ever products, so check out my first professional smokey eye… It’s loud and proud colour wise I know, but the blues were calling me.

Let’s hope this one can be recreated when I’m left to my own devices!
