Space NK Lust List

There was some serious excitement in the beautysphere recently with the grand opening of Ireland’s first standalone Space NK store. If you’re a beauty nerd or follow any beauty blogs at all, you’ll already be aware of the importance of this big news, but for those of you who are not, I’ll briefly explain:

Space NK isn’t just any old make up store; it’s an emporium and home to some of the most luxurious beauty brands in the world. It’s British, has stores in London and New York, and was founded by Nicky Kinnaird (hence the NK) just over 20 years ago.

The store (apothecary – ‘scuse me!) features make-up, skincare and hair care brands, some of which we’ve never really had the pleasure of sampling on the back of our hands before. Some of the tempting brands to lust over include Sunday Riley (a major beauty go-to on runways around the world), Eve Lom, By Terry, Lipstick Queen, Hourglass, Sarah Chapman and Oribe.

It took an overwhelming amount of willpower not to blow all my life savings on a spree on my first visit and indulged instead on simply exploring all the brands and making a lust list instead…

Ambient Lightning Blush by Hourglass
I’m familiar with the brand only because of what I’ve read on other blogs and can’t wait to try Hourglass. I particularly love the look of this lightweight blusher which comes in six shades. This one here is ‘Diffused Heat’.

Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser by Aurelia
I didn’t know this brand at all before Space NK arrived but I did receive a sample of this moisturiser and absolutely love it. Hence its place on my lust list! The luxurious cream is whipped, with a mousse-type texture to it, and it gives skin a gorgeous glow while hydrating dull skin.

Cheek to Cheek by By Terry
So this one is for the days when I’m not in the mood for a powder blush. I’m a big fan of cream blush as it is, but I’m dying to try Cheek by Cheek. It’s a brand new syrup blusher that’s made from 100% water. It gives baby soft pink cheeks and a subtle satin finish. Want!

Anti-feathering lip pencil by Laura Mercier
I’ve been meaning to get a nude-coloured lip pencil for a while and love the look of this lip pencil in ‘Naked’ by Laura Mercier. Designed to outline and enhance the natural shape of your lip, the nude-coloured pencil is ideal for wearing everyday, and can be used simply with a lipgloss.

Skinny Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko
Eyeliner is one of those cult beauty products I know I will never live without and I’ve heard great things about this particular one by Eyeko. It is designed with an easy-to-control pen and a preservative-free formula and it promises a long lasting finish. I can’t wait to add this one to my make-up kit!

What I did buy:

It’s not the type of place where you can easily leave empty handed, there’s just too much that I want. So I did treat myself to one particular product I’ve been eyeing up; eye do by eyeko. Eyeko is a brand that is fronted by Alexa Chung, so you know it’s cool. This isn’t just a mascara, but a treatment for your lashes too. It’s water resistant (but easily removed with eye make-up remover) and contains lash-enhancing botanicals too.
It features an over-sized mascara brush which creates clump-free volume and the carbon black colour adds depth and long-lasting colour.
It also has a unique tube-style packaging, which means less wastage.
It’s my new favourite mascara and for €25, a purchase that won’t break the bank!

Summer’s here at Tesco!

The summer finally arrived this week. Until now, the weather hadn’t quite been in sync with our calenders, but as optimistic as us Irish are, we were busy embracing the summer anyway, whilst just keeping our fingers firmly crossed that the sunshine would, eventually, prevail.

And this week, we finally got spotted by Mother Nature and we are being promised more than just one day of sunshine – possibly up to a week! We can’t believe it.

And to celebrate the fact that it is, in fact, June, I went along to check out the F&F Summer Collection preview last week and I was so impressed!

F&F feature their clothing range for men, women and kids at Tesco stores across the country and this year, the summer collection is Rio-inspired and full of summer brights, on-trend styles that could be mistaken for falling straight off the catwalk.

The womenswear collection was much bigger and more diverse than I imagined which was a really nice surprise, with everything from bold print trousers and pretty summery tops, to bikinis, sexy swimsuits, lace shorts and crochet kimonos.

Some of my favourite pieces included this ‘Take me to Paris’ top (although once it has Paris on it, I’m sold):

And this bright pink ‘you can’t miss me’ floppy sun hat:

I also set my sights on the tribal matching shorts and kimono set worn by stylist Courtney Smith, who was MC and the stylist for the event and fashion show.

What struck me most was how on-trend and fashionable each piece from the collection was. F&F is certainly competing with some of the great fashion brands out there for the most stylish stakes. With such good prices too, there will be a few pieces from the photos below that will definitely be making it into my summer wardrobe this month. Did someone say payday??

SS14: River Island Press Preview

While we might be still traipsing around in our fur-lined boots and brollies, somewhere in the not so distant future there is a light at the end of the winter tunnel. Although that still seems a long way off, it appears that it’s already springtime in the fashion world with high street stores already previewing their Spring/Summer trends for 2014.

River Island is always a firm favourite when it comes to choosing an outfit for a night out on the town. The fact that the brand’s collections are always so diverse and contemporary is something I really like, and you can be sure there will be the odd bold and daring item that’s bound to inject an element of fun into our wardrobes.

This year however, I’m already impressed with what’s on the cards. Think soft pastels and monochrome staples, floral patterns and fun prints as well as metallics and neons. And then of course, there is a huge range of fun accessories – Miu-Miu inspired sunglasses, fluffy pastel handbags and chunky daytime shoes.

The brand held its press preview for SS14 last week in Dublin and while I managed to take a few snaps of my favourite collections (which are already being added to my Spring/Summer/Someday wishlist), I couldn’t resist sharing their fabulous edible beach. Yup, that’s right. The sand was made from honeycomb while the little bottles of suncream were actually biscuit cake. Amazing.

School’s not quite out for summer yet, but it’s certainly on its way! My fave looks from the River Island SS14 look book are to follow…

Cali Beach Cakes. It was all edible, even the starfish!

Metallic accessories and classic plastics focus on adding textures to your outfits. Think 3D applique flowers, glitters and colour pops to add those finishing touches.

Posh Pastels mix chic tailoring with romantic feminine colours for a ladylike and flirty vibe!

Bright colours, neons and patterns are the key looks this season

Monochrome looks are perfect when injected with a burst of colour or a bold graphic print.

Top 5 Nail Colours for Christmas Sparkle

It’s the one time of year when each and every one of us can get away with a little bit of sparkle, and whether you’re hoping to cover yourself from head to toe in sequins or just offering a discreet nod in the glitterati’s direction, festive nails are a fun way of getting into the seasonal spirit. With that in mind, it was nice of our friends in the nail polish world to put all the glitter and sparkle of Christmas time into their brand new collections. These are a few of my favourites!

Ted Baker’s Nail Duos come with both a base shade and a glittery top coat. The double layering system means the glitter looks built up without the multiple applications! The collection comes in three different shades – Blue Moon and Spacedust, Cherry Bomb and Sugar Rush, and Golden Girl and Totally Twinkie. All colours are available from Boots at €10.50.

I’m a big fan of Jessica nail products and love the colours in their Christmas ‘Glitzy Effects’ collection. With six shades to choose from, these glitter polishes are designed to be worn as a top coat over your favourite nail colour. Each shade will set you back just €7.15 (plus VAT).

Ideal for wearing over a colour or layered on its own, I am loving the new luxeffects collection by Essie. Each glitter shade has multiple glitter flake shapes which make for an interesting finish! There are five fab shades to choose from, all with ridiculously cute names. And although I’ve yet to try, I’ve heard all good reports. Priced at €9.99 each.

Maybelline have also joined the glitter club with their new Color Show ‘Brocade’ collection of sparkly fingernail festivities. With four different shades to choose from, this collection is a little different, as it offers more subtle sparkle than sequin flakes. Use over a base colour or layer it on for a full shimmer effect (€5.99).

If you’re any good at playing around with nail art, INGLOT’s new Nail and Body Art Spangles are the best way to add festive sparkle to Christmas party nails. There are ten different pots of glittery sequins to choose from and they come in different shapes and eye catching colours. Priced at €13, the spangles can be applied directly onto a base colour adding sparkles and texture!

Beauty Lust List

The sunshine is proving to be a real fighter this year. One moment we’re turning on the heat and braving the autumn chill and the next we’re enjoying a glass of vino in the front garden, shades and all. Being afraid to argue with mother nature and her indecisiveness, I’m happy to sit and soak up this year’s concluding rays. So in the spirit of blissful denial, and the eternal certainty that I will one day be able to make my lust list a must list, I’ve picked out some of my favourite beauty buys for the new season.  A €4 quick pick please?
